Baseball Queensland is gearing up for an action-packed weekend as the Futures League continues to roll out, with the Open Women’s competition kicking off this Friday night and both the U16 and U18 competitions starting on Sunday.
The Futures League Open Women’s competition is set to start this Friday, 16th August, at Beenleigh Hawks Baseball Club. Teams are selected from players aged 15-30, with each team allowed two out-of-age players, creating a dynamic mix of experience and youthful energy. Matches will be played on five consecutive Friday nights, with the season concluding on 13th September.
On Sunday, the spotlight will shift to the U16 and U18 divisions, where some of Queensland’s most promising young baseball stars will take the field. Both the U16 and U16 Emerging teams will play at Runcorn Indians Baseball Club, while the U18 teams will compete at Redlands Rays. The Sunday matches promise to be filled with intense competition and outstanding displays of athleticism as these young athletes push themselves to new heights.
Baseball Queensland encourages all fans, friends, and family to come out and support these athletes as they embark on this exciting chapter of their baseball journey. The Futures League is not just about competition; it’s about building the future of baseball in Queensland.
Baseball Queensland Adopts New National Player Transfer Policy
Baseball Australia has announced the release of a new national player transfer policy, and Baseball Queensland is swiftly aligning with these new guidelines, rendering BQ’s previous policy redundant.

PLAYER TRANSFERS
A player is free to join any club at the start of their baseball journey regardless of the residential area that the club is situated in relative to the player’s residential status. However, from time to time, players will want to move clubs and at times this will be to a club for which they will be deemed to be playing “out of area” – meaning that the club they wish to play for is in a different league boundary area to their residential qualification under the LLI rules.
In these cases, the following must apply:
– The player must apply for and be granted a clearance from the player’s original club.
– The executed clearance form (or summary worksheet) shall be submitted to BA/LLI and the clearance shall only be complete once approval has been granted by the Charter Committee in Williamsport. The clearance form must contain details about why the player has requested the clearance.
– Such players shall then be deemed to be “redshirted” and cannot play in any Tournament (“AllStar”) team for that season – this is an LLI requirement and cannot be waived.
This alignment with Baseball Australia’s national policy simplifies the transfer process and ensures consistency across all regions, enhancing fairness and transparency in the sport.
