Baseball Queensland is excited to present the 2021 Futures League: Junior League Division. It’s a new opportunity for Junior League-age players to play more games in a fun, competitive atmosphere.
Available to all Queensland players with a limit of 44, the four-team competition runs for ten weeks on Wednesday nights during the first half of the season, ending at the holiday break. Games start at 6:30pm and will alternate between Mt Gravatt and Southern Stars.

Baseball QLD is excited to announce the Team Names, Team Managers and Jersey designs for the inaugural Futures League competition scheduled to start on Wednesday, 15 September 2021.
Baseball QLD would like to congratulate the Team Managers on their appointments and look forward to them leading their respective teams with the extensive knowledge and experience they have.

Baseball Queensland in partnership with the Brisbane Bandits was excited to recently announce a new QLD Competition, Futures League.
The Futures League will be played on a Wednesday night commencing mid to late September 2021 and should have minimal impact on the local Division 1 GBL competition or conflict with other programmes. The intent of the Futures League is that the Baseball QLD and Brisbane Bandits partnership enables a joint venture commencing this season and for future seasons, providing a pathway from the Baseball QLD Futures League to the Brisbane Bandits Futures Academy or ABL roster.
Baseball QLD High Performance Manager, Mr Shayne Watson commented that “this is a fantastic initiative from the dedicated and hardworking people on the Futures League Committee. Seeing scope for growth of this League is promising as we head into the inaugural season”, Watson said.
“The Futures League forms the foundation towards the collaboration between Baseball QLD and Brisbane Bandits. This will further highlight the extension of the player and coach Pathway Framework for baseballers within Queensland”, Watson said.
Brisbane Bandits Team Manager, Mr David Nilsson commented that “I am excited to see the talent on the field for this inaugural season. Overall, players will be at similar abilities, and I foresee games throughout the Futures League to be competitive. This will provide additional opportunity for players aspiring to play at the highest level in Australia”, Nilsson said.
“I will be keeping a close eye on the talent that is displayed on field as we prepare for a successful 2021/ 22 ABL Season. The Futures League Committee are doing a fantastic job and I applaud their commitment towards setting up this initiative”, Nilsson said.
Brisbane Bandits High Performance Manager, Mr Donald Lutz commented that “everyone involved with the Futures League will be benefiting from it. I am convinced the more time you spend on the field playing, training or simply being around your teammates will help you grow as a ballplayer and a person. I am very excited, as this is a big step to keep growing the game of baseball in Queensland”, Lutz said.

The Baseball QLD Futures League is now seeking expressions of interest for players to register for the Futures League draft and can so at the following link free of charge. Once selected in the draft a player cost may be charged to participate.

The Futures League is a 10 week, draft based competition aimed at players aged 17 to 24* that will provide a high level of play and development opportunities for players looking to progress their careers to the ABL and college pathways.
Baseball QLD Director of Game Development, Mr David Badke commented “The Futures League will create an environment to improve the player pathways and partnering with the Brisbane Bandits is great for Baseball in QLD. It will provide high level quality games where we can showcase our local players like an MLB farm system, to the ABL franchises, overseas scouts and colleges”, Badke said.
Bandits Owner, Mr Mark Ready commented that “over the next few years the Baseball QLD Futures League and the Brisbane Bandits Futures Academy will become a window of opportunity for those players looking to play at a higher level. I acknowledge and thank the hard work and drive of a lot of people in both organisations to make this happen”, Ready said.
