What is the futures league?

An elite baseball development competition, developing the next generation of Queensland baseball talent.

The Futures League is Baseball Queensland’s premier player development competition, designed to accelerate the growth of emerging baseball talent across Queensland. Operating during Term 3, the Futures League provides a high-performance environment where players, coaches, officials, and scorers can develop their skills while gaining valuable experience within Baseball Queensland’s performance pathway.

Whether you’re an aspiring representative player, a developing coach, or an emerging official, the Futures League offers a unique opportunity to learn, compete, and progress in a structured development-focused competition.

The Futures League is a specialised baseball development competition that complements Baseball Queensland’s athlete development and performance programs. It brings together talented participants aged 12 to 30 years along with emerging coaches, officials, and scorers seeking development opportunities.

Unlike traditional competitions, the Futures League uses modified rules and development-focused game formats designed to enhance player skills, tactical awareness, decision-making, and game understanding.

The program creates a supportive, high-quality environment where participants can challenge themselves while receiving guidance from experienced coaches and mentors.

Playing for more than a trophy - the Ash Anderson cup

Each year, the winning teams across all Futures League Queensland divisions are awarded the Ash Anderson Cup, a memorial trophy that honours the life and legacy of former Queensland baseball player Ash Anderson.

Ash was a passionate and talented athlete who was actively involved in Baseball Queensland’s Performance Pathway Programs. He proudly represented Surfers Paradise and Beenleigh Hawks Baseball Clubs throughout his junior career and, following a successful Queensland Showcase event, was selected in the 2021 Queensland U18 Team before earning selection in the Australian U18 National Training Squad.

The Ash Anderson Cup recognises more than on-field success. It celebrates the dedication, character, and commitment to development that Ash embodied and that the Futures League aims to inspire in the next generation of Queensland baseball players.

Ash, you are always with us out here on the baseball field.
