Baseball Queensland is pleased to announce that due to the success of our youth women’s programs that we will be submitting a second team to the Australian Youth Women’s Championships.

We are pleased to see our women’s programs continue to grow and a second-team is a natural progression, providing an opportunity for more youth women to experience top tier women’s baseball.

High-performance Manager Shayne Watson is excited for the opportunity for more Queensland Youth Women to participate in this year’s AYWC.

“This is a fantastic opportunity having more Queensland Girls participating at their premier annual event, Australian Youth Women’s Championships.

“With the increase in Youth Women participation and performance, the Girls are showing supported the request to Baseball Australia. The Program is grateful for this opportunity and I would like to acknowledge Baseball Australia for their support.

Baseball Queensland can also announce that Karina Connors has been named as Manager of the second Youth Women’s team. Shayne Watson shared his thoughts about the appointment.

“Karina was the perfect fit for this position. Karina had a sustainable playing career representing QLD and Australia. Since her retirement in 2018, Karina has been involved in coaching at all levels most recently invited to be on the Emerald’s coaching staff during their camp last year.

Karina has an understanding of the demands to be an elite-level athlete, but can also apply and appropriately share her knowledge with the girls within our Pathway.

Initiatives like this not only provide opportunities for athletes but also coaches working within our Pathway Programs”

Our Open Women’s and first Youth Women’s team announcement will be shared tomorrow (20th February) with our second Youth Women’s team to be announced in the coming weeks.
