Junior Elite Pathway

During Term 3 and Term 4 of the school year athletes and coaches are given the opportunity to be part of specific programs that are  caterd towards all ability levels with the intent to improve in areas:

  • General and sports specific S&C (physical)
  • Baseball specific skill (technical)
  • Simulated games (tactical)
  • Athlete and coach education (psychological)

 

Junior Elite Winter Program- June to September

Delivered in South East QLD (3 locations- Gold Coast, Brisbane and Brisbane North), Lismore and Nth QLD, this 16 week program fosters the development of state level and identified regional level athletes. This program is delivered June to September

Delivered by QLD Bandits coaching staff, the purpose of this program is:

  • Early stages of preparation for National Championships
  • Junior World Cup preparation
  • U14 National Academy preparation
  • 2018/19 State Titles and Summer Season preparation

BQ Girls Development Program- throughout the year

This Program is evolving every year and caters for athletes 11 – 17 yrs old. Following an off season program in recent year’s, this program has begun to enter teams into tournaments throughout the year. This initiative has formed an annual program which includes the following:

  • BQ Div II State Titles (Easter holidays)
  • Far North Coast Baseball Association Timberjacks Tournament (July)
  • Junior Elite Program Off Season Program (August to September)
  • Gold Coast Summer Classic (December to January)

 

Delivered by QLD Bandits coaching staff, the purpose of this program is:

  • Increase female participation
  • Improve fundamental baseball specific skill and knowledge
  • Promote an active lifestyle and healthy living
  • Foster a social environment for all athletic abilities

 

U16 Athlete Development Program- May to June

This program is delivered in South East QLD and is an introduction to the Junior Elite Pathway. The U16 age group is the entry level age for State representation at Baseball Australia’s National Championships.

This six week off season program has every athlete go through a range of skill development stations at every session covering:

  • Baserunning
  • Hitting
  • Defence (Catching, Infield and Outfield)
  • Pitching
  • Throwing development
  • General Strength and Conditioning

Delivered by QLD Bandits coaching staff, the purpose of this program is:

  • Introduce athletes to the Junior Elite Pathway
  • Identifies athletes that show traits for U16 QLD Bandits State Squad selection
  • To educate athletes on the resources/opportunities available to help them develop between now and National Championships
  • Introduce with the intent to establish characteristic standards of elite level athletes within Baseball Queensland programs

 

14U MLB Showcase- June/July

This is a joint initiative between State bodies and Baseball Australia with the support of Major League Baseball. This event provides an opportunity for 13 and 14 year old athletes to showcase their baseball and general athletic abilities through a national standard testing protocol. Athletes are assessed and evaluated with the possibility to be invited to attend Baseball Australia’s and MLB 14U Academy held in Lismore over five days in August.

The purpose of this program is:

  • National and State standardised testing
    • 60yrd
    • Home to 1B
    • Double Leg Broad Jump
    • Agility
    • Arm velocity
    • Bat velocity
  • Introduce young athletes to a baseball testing session
  • Promote Major League Baseball’s grass roots initiative
  • Identify athletes to be invited to 14U BA/ MLB Academy

 

U14 Athlete Development Program- August to September

A new initiative in 2018 calendar. This six week program is a modified version of the U16 Athlete Development Program and is also delivered in South East QLD.

This six week off season program has every athlete go through a range of skill development stations at every session covering:

  • Baserunning
  • Hitting
  • Defence (Catching, Infield and Outfield)
  • Pitching
  • Throwing development
  • General Strength and Conditioning

Delivered by QLD Bandits coaching staff, the purpose of this program is:

  • To educate athletes on the resources/opportunities available to help them develop.
  • Introduce strategies to improve best practice.
  • Promote the importance of training

 

Women’s Elite Program- December to March

This 10 week program is delivered in conjunction with state team preparation. Scheduled on a separate day, this program is designed to improve state level athletes:

  • Speed development
  • Agility and acceleration
  • General Strength Development
  • Arm development

 

Delivered by the Junior Elite Pathway Manager and S&C staff, the purpose of this program is to:

  • Provide additional services for our female athletes
  • Preparation for National Championships
  • Early preparation for World Cup
  • Introduce and educate on best practice for baseball athletes

 

State Program- October to Easter

Baseball QLD enters state representative teams in all four of Baseball Australia’s National Championships. U16 and U18 age groups complete at the National Youth Championships, January and our Youth Women and Senior Women compete at the National Women’s Championships, Easter.

*U16 and U18- A squad is selected directly after BQ’s State Titles with the final team announced in November.

*Along with regular team practice sessions, our U16 QLD squad competes in the Greater Brisbane League (GBL) Div III competition throughout the Summer season

Youth Women and Senior Women- A squad is selected after open tryouts throughout December and January with the final teams announced throughout February.

Delivered by QLD Bandits coaching staff, the purpose of this program is:

  • Prepare for a successful National Championships
  • Appropriately develop individual skill and team tactics relevant to age group
  • To educate athletes on the resources/opportunities available to help them develop between now and National Championships
